connectors for rc

As shown in the connector types , there are all sorts of flavors and sizes of RC LiPo battery connectors out there and those photos only shows a small smattering. So which one to use can be a complicated decision when you are first starting out if you don't know much about them yet. I hope this page helps you with that :-)

The purpose of all these RC LiPo Battery connectors is simple. They offer a convenient & easy way to connect our RC LiPo battery packs into our model's ESC/Power system to complete the electrical circuit, allowing the current to flow from the Battery to the ESC and/or other electronic systems/components.

ec3 connector

Main power plugs/connectors have a finite cycle life (how many times they can be plugged & unplugged) before they start wearing out, pitting & carbon burning from ESC capacitor charging arcs, oxidation, dirt, or the spring tension of the contact points starts getting weak.

All conditions or a combination will give you an increasingly poor connection with increased resistance over time. This generally starts showing up as power drop-offs or worse, cut-outs & restarts under high current loading meaning it's time to replace your connectors. Yep, I've been there and have the sad remains of the heli as a reminder!

xt30 connectors

You may recall I mentioned "Male" & "Female" a few times while describing some of these various connectors at the article The Most Common RC Lipo Battery Connectors You Should Know. And in the next picture I show one sex of connector as the LiPo/Source, and the other as the ESC/Device.

Why is this important?

Basically, any connector that has power at the pins (ie. the one on the battery side or BEC side), must be the one out of the two that is the least likely to short out! This is very important for safety reasons and I have often seen people new to the hobby solder the wrong sex on the wrong end.

Gens ace 5000 2s 100c

Remember Gens Ace batteries? Yes, that is the same company that won not one, but two, of our LiPo battery shootouts back in the day. Now days, they are cranking out batteries of all shapes and sizes to help keep your truck running as fast as it can.

It has been a while since we tested a Gens Ace pack, so we grabbed one of their 2S 5000 LiPo Batteries to put it through the gauntlet. Does it have plenty of power? What about runtime? Can it take a standard basher style beating? Read on to find out…

jst plug

Molex Picoblade 2 pin (also called Pico and incorrectly micro JST) and the JST PH 2 pin connectors are very small and have 1 & 2 Amp ratings respectively.

You will see them primarily used on small micro single cell LiPo RC aircraft such as Blade & Walkera micro helicopters and Eflite/Parkzone micro airplanes. The 2 pin Picoblade is also a decent low cost connector I find for LED RC lighting systems or any other very low current application that needs a plug.

dys x300

When I sketched up my article I wanted to introduce only 3 alternatives for the TinyWhoop but there are so many cool alternatives that couldn’t stop at this number. Recently it was announced even a brushless Whoop.

1. Blade Inductrix FPV aka Yellow Whoop

Certainly the Blade Inductrix FPV is one of the best alternative for the popular TinyWhoop. It is also called “the official Whoop”. BTW, I read somewhere that both drones are build on the same frame.

Thanks to the protective canopy, the Blade Inductrix has a more “finished” design as the TW.

Best Drone Buying Guide

beginner drone

Drones range in price from less than $100 to several thousand dollars, and the best drone for you isn't necessarily the most expensive one. The best drone for you depends on your experience level and how you plan to use it.

As the price goes up, drones become more powerful and capable of carrying extra hardware such as a stabilizing mount and action camera. But the real cost difference is in the brains of the drone — the flight controller and onboard processor — that make it more stable and maneuverable, and allow it to perform more functions in the air. For drones with built-in cameras, the cost will also increase with the quality of the camera.

micro drone racing battery

Last week I received from Gens Ace two Li-Po batteries for review. The Tattu 2s 800 mAh and Tattu 3s 450 mAh. Firstly, I thought about making an individually test of each battery, but latter I found it more helpful to make a side by side comparison of them.

Both Li-Po batteries are suitable for micro class FPV drones like the Blade Torrent 110 and KingKong ET series. Weighing about the same (~42 grams), I’m curious to find out which one will perform better (top speed vs flight time).
